Introduction to multi table tournaments
Multi table tournaments are one of the most popular styles of the game for online players and is definitely the most televised of all poker games, with tournaments such as the World Series of poker and the World Poker Tour to name a few, it has also lately become more of a growing trend for players to qualify for these big live play tournaments through internet satellite tournaments on poker rooms such as Poker stars. Some big names that have made there mark on the world poker scene through this method are Chris money maker and Greg Raymor who both have won wsop bracelets in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
The tournament structure or a multi table event (MTT) is fairly simple all players enter the tournament with there “buy-in” once you have matched this buy in all players are given a set amount of chips for which to play the tournament with, enough tables are played at to cover the amount of entrants into the tournament. Elimination of players then begins when game play starts when a player is eliminated there space is normally taken up by somebody else to try and keep the tables full and bring down the total number of tables that are in play. Due to the volume of players that can sign up to big MTT’s tournaments can take several hours and sometimes days to complete.
It does seem to be a lot of time, effort and concentration when you consider that only a small percentage of the players who buy into a tournament will see a return from their investment, however if you can adopt the right playing style and become a regular money finisher not necessarily win it but finish in the money MTT’s can become very profitable. With big tournaments such as the World Series of poker seeing 1st place payments as high as $12,000,000
