Howard Lederer
Howard Lederer is one of the games true greats and real gentlemen of the sport. After he has finished college Howard moved to New York to peruse his true love of poker once he got there he as instantly hooked on the game he would spent 70-80 hours a week relentlessly playing, he would however often find himself going home empty handed and out of pocket, to fund his buy ins and stakes every night he would run errands for the players. Howard eventually realised that the constant all night play might be hindering rather than helping his game so he took a step back started to play a little less regularly and found that his game started to improve.
Howard really got his name on the scene when he started to play at the Mayfair casino in New York Howard and established himself as one of the top backgammon and bridge players in the club; this is where he and fellow high stake members started to toy with the idea of no limit Holdem after they would play there games which normally started at 4pm and not finish to around 2am the players would all go the there favourite bar and discuss the nights play this gave a for a very healthy learning environment helping the games of all the players who participated.
In the late 80s Howard then started to teach his sister how to play the game, he would get her to play during the day and they would discuss her game at night subsequently his guidance paid off as Annie became the most successful women poker player in the wsop and has knocker her brother out on 3 occasions including the wsop main event in 1994.
In order to take his own game to the next level Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and concentrated mainly on cash games right up until 2002 where the WPT announced monthly tournaments. Howard has got many titles under his belt these include 2 hall of fame titles he also hold 2 wsop gold bracelets and 2 WPT titles as well as an array of big casino wins. Nowadays Howard is more a commentator than a participant in poker events he gives analysis and fellow poker pros players there for lending himself to the nickname “ the professor” however rare it is to see him in the live events he still does enjoy playing his online poker at full tilt poker
